During
his meeting with the Prime Minister in 2012, Professor Robert Huber, Nobel
Prize Laureate, Chemistry mentioned the possibility of Mauritian scientists to
participate in the landau Nobel Laureates Meeting. The Lindau Nobel Laureates
meeting, which dates back to 1951, aims at bringing together young scientists
from all over the world to meet and interact with Nobel Laureates. Every year,
about 600 young scientists can participate in the meetings, which are attended
by about 20 to 35 Nobel Prize winners. The meetings are inspired by the guiding
principles “Educate, Inspire, Connect”.
They focus alternately
on a different discipline. Last year the discipline was Chemistry and the meeting was attended by
two Mauritian candidates (i) Ms Bibi Naziah Jaufeerally from the University of
Mauritius (ii)Ms Aazraa Oumayyah Pankan from Nottingham University, Malaysia. Nominations
should be done by academic partners who organise only the first stage of the
selection process. The final decision is taken by the Lindau Nobel Laureates
Meeting Council panel. The Ministry of Tertiary Education, Science, Research
and Technology has signed a MOU with Lindau Nobel Laureates Council to become
and academic partner. 50
% of the cost of participation is met by the ministry and 50% by Lindau Nobel
Laureates Meeting Council. This year, Dr Arnaud Dominique L’Omelette and Mr
Keshav Beeharry have been selected by Lindau Nobel Laureates Council.
