I was at the historic edition of the first ever, ‘Best Mauritian Scientist Award’, organised by my Ministry and the Mauritius Research Council held at the conference Hall, Cyber Tower 1, Cybercity, Ebene. The Award, approved by Government, is meant to recognize the efforts and values of Mauritians in the field of sciences, both natural and social. By launching such an initiative, my Ministry wants to encourage our researchers and scientists to emulate the best researchers and scientists overseas. Our academics must invest more time and to dedicate their capacities in activities that will lead to applications for the benefit of the society at large. The Best Mauritian Scientist Award is not an end objective, but rather the responsibility to hold high the cause of the sciences and be a role model and mentor to others.
