‘Launching Ceremony for the National Research Chairs ‘

It gave me great pleasure to be at the Launching Ceremony for the award of the National Research Chairs held at The Link, Hotel, Ebéne. Today’s ceremony is an important milestone in the consolidation of our research infrastructure. The National Research Chairs Programme is a long term commitment of Government to invest in Research to create jobs, strengthen the economy and improve the quality of life of all Mauritians. Investing in Research is crucial for developing highly skilled people and improving long-term competitiveness of the Mauritian economy. It is with these goals in mind that we have created the National Research Chairs at the UoM and/or UTM. I would like to thank the Tertiary Education Commission for the rigorous selection process for the National Research Chairs. I take this opportunity to congratulate all the recipients of the National Research Chairs awards. I hope this will generate the necessary competitive spirit that will increase our appetite for success as a nation.
