I congratulate Mr. D. Fokeer, GOSK, Director General of the UTM, Dr. Chittoo, Chairperson of the national workshop and Mr. Jean Bruneau, Commissioner of Prisons, for the laudable initiative to organise the Validation Workshop on the premises of the Mauritius Prisons Service. I take personal pride that one of the Universities operating under the aegis of my Ministry is tackling this prickly problem with the objective of submitting a report to Government as expected by the Prime Minister. We look forward for the implementation of the validated recommendation which should go a long way in tangibly reducing the number of recidivists in this country. I sincerely hope they believe in service above self and that their deliberations done with missionary zeal will contribute to make society, safer and more secure for all our citizens and a more prosperous Mauritius as the desired outcome. The Director General of UTM, the Chairperson of the national workshop and the Commissioner of Prisons deserve our congratulations for having brought together all the stakeholders to think and deliberate on which a delicate issue of multi-disciplinary nature. The report, with recommendations, which have received their critical inputs, will provide government with a solid base to adopt measures to reduce crime and recidivism in Mauritius.
