I proceeded to the launching of workshop on the “Coral Reef Ecosystem in a Changing Environment”, organized by the University of Mauritius and Shizuoka University, Japan in collaboration with the Biodiversity and Environment Institute. This Workshop will focus on the impact of the changing environment on our coral reefs. It is therefore a much appreciated initiative addressing a vital national concern – our marine biodiversity. We are thankful to Shizuoka University, Japan for their collaboration. I congratulate the University for organizing this workshop to identify measures to protect our national coral reef ecosystem and would also suggest that these measures be fed into our decision making process and policies. I have no doubt that this two-day Workshop on “Coral Reef Ecosystem in a Changing Environment” will be beneficial to all participants. I wish all the participants fruitful deliberations.
