‘National Science Week at Kendra Shopping Centre - Saint Pierre’

I extend a warm welcome to all those present for the Eighth Edition of the National Science Week 2013 held at Kendra Shopping Centre St Pierre, organized by the Rajiv Gandhi Science Centre. A very special welcome to all the young students who were present there  as this is an activity that is being organized specially for them as we want to sensitize them on the importance of Science and Technology in our everyday life. Science is such a universal subject that we cannot do away with it.  The country needs the critical mass of professionals with the scientific background in order to meet the future socio economic challenges of the country.  The Rajiv Gandhi Science Centre (RGSC) working under the aegis of my Ministry has the mandate to promote Science and Technology among the general public and also among school students.  The RGSC came up with various programme like the Sky Observation programme for general public, Science Through Colours, Science Project based competition for school students, all having one and the same goal that is  popularisation of science. I would like to acknowledge the contribution and the support of the following organisations: AREU, Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development, Ministry of Agro Industry and Food Security, Mauritius Standards Bureau, Mauritius Heart Foundation, Blood Donors Association, Forestry Department, Mauritius Research Council, Open University of Mauritius, Traffic Branch, Fire Services and others. I wish to thank everyone who has collaborated to make the event a success especially the team from RGSC.
