‘LAUNCHING OF THE FREE ONLINE AND FACE-TO-FACE COURSE ON EMERGING TRENDS AND TECHNOLOGIES IN THE VIRTUAL CLASSROOM’

I proceeded to the launching of the free online and face-to-face course on  Emerging Trends and Technologies in the Virtual Classroom for Educators which is being offered in collaboration with the US embassy and the University of California Irvine. I extend a warm welcome to her Excellency the Ambassador of the United States of America for her first visit to the Open University of Mauritius. I am also pleased to welcome our far-away guests, Mrs Andreina Parisi-Amon, representative of Coursera, and Mrs Melissa Loble, Associate Dean of UC Irvine Education Center and instructor of the online course.Distance and Open learning opens wide horizons for learners, for academics and teachers. It is one of the most efficient ways to help us achieve our strategic objective of widening access and ensuring equity in higher education.  The Open University has already started well with a strong demand for open learning.  I am therefore very satisfied that it is now getting engaged in open education resources.I thank the US Embassy and all the renowned partners who have worked in close collaboration with the Open University of Mauritius.  My thanks also go to the Director-General and the staff of the Open University of Mauritius who have been behind the development of this innovative and historic project.
