I proceeded to the opening ceremony of the Author’s Workshop organised by (Elsevier) Science Direct. The Central on-line library which comprises of two major providers of e-journals namely Emerald and EBSCO was launched on 04 February 2010. The databases from these two providers enabled access to more than 17,000 articles and journals and to 560 volume titles of eBooks collections (Emerald). The eBooks collection covers subjects such as: Strategy, Accounting and Finance, Organizational Studies, Economics, Politics, Linguistics, Sociology and Healthcare and Education. At the request of academics the Tertiary Education Commission took the initiative in March 2011, of subscribing with Elsevier (Science Direct). This subscription provides access to more than 1,800 international peer reviewed e-journals and more than 8,000 articles. My Ministry fully supports the initiative to open access to e-journals and eBooks as this will definitely help in the positioning of Mauritius in the region as a world class knowledge hub and the gate way to post secondary education. Furthermore, this will surely act as a catalyst to enhance teaching & learning and research.
