‘Fifth Annual Tagore Memorial Lecture Series’

To mark the 150th Birth Anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore, a Fifth Annual Tagore Memorial Lecture Series, ’Tagore and Gandhi :Raising the Spirit of Responsible Patriotism’, was held at the Rabindranath Tagore Institute(RTI) Auditorium,  Ilot, D’Epinay, a lecture delivered  by Mrs. Ela Gandhi, granddaughter of Mahatma Gandhi and Trustee of Gandhi Development Trust (GDT), South Africa. Rabindranath Tagore’s educational model has a unique sensitivity and aptness for education within multi-racial, multi-lingual and multi-cultural situations, amidst conditions of acknowledged economic discrepancy and political imbalance. Tagore said: “The highest education is that which does not merely give us information but makes our life in harmony with all existence...”I congratulate the RTI for having established and sustained facilities where our current and future generations can participate in educational and literary activities that will help us look back at some of the Modern Greats of the past century and re-examine their messages of wisdom for their relevance today. I specially refer to Tagore, the Poet and Gandhi, the Mahatma. I thank the RTI for having invited me to preside over the 5th Annual Memorial Lecture by our eminent speaker, Mrs Ela Gandhi, whose Lecture relating to the two great leaders of India, one spiritual and the other intellectual will inspire us in pursuing our goals in life.
