Dr Jeetah was elected Member of the National Assembly in December 2003 for the first time for Constituency No.7 (Piton/Rivière du Rempart), and remained so until April 2005. Dr Jeetah was re-elected as: • Member of the National Assembly for Constituency No.11 (Vieux Grand Port-Rose Belle), in 2005 and became Minister of Industry, Small and Medium Enterprises, Commerce & Cooperatives (2005 to 2008).He became Minister of Health & Quality of Life (2008 to 2010). • Member of the National Assembly for Constituency No.10 (Montagne Blanche- GRSE)in 2010 and became Minister of Tertiary Education, Science, Research and Technology till 2014. ‘WORKSHOP ON SEAWEED FARMING AND PROCESSING INDUSTRY IN MAURITIUS AND RODRIGUES’

 

 
 



 
 
 
 It was an immense pleasure to be there for a very special project which was launched by both myself and my colleague Hon Von Mally in November 2011. For the first time seaweed farming in natural conditions has been successfully demonstrated in Mauritius and Rodrigues and I am given to understand that in some cases these studies regarding the processing of the seaweeds are showing promising results. The Government’s vision is to make of Mauritius, within the next ten years, a nation fully conscious of its immense potential as an Ocean State. This is a key channel through which we can advance economically to greater prosperity.  Today we are here to take stock of the progress made on the seaweed farming project and on the potential of a Seaweed processing industry in Mauritius and Rodrigues and you will agree with me that such a project fits in the context of the Ocean Economy. I welcome this effort towards innovation and a new local industry. This is a first step in a new field. I wish good luck and success to all the institutions involved in this exciting new endeavour.

“Science Fun Day at CEDEM (CENTRE D'EDUCATION ET DE DEVELOPPEMENT POUR LES ENFANTS MAURICIENS) ’’

 
 
 
 
 
 

I proceeded to the launching of a ‘Science Fun Day’ at CEDEM (CENTRE D'EDUCATION ET DE DEVELOPPEMENT POUR LES ENFANTS MAURICIENS) organised by the Rajiv Gandhi Science Centre in collaboration with my ministry. The RGSC team is there to impart scientific knowledge to our young people through a number of activities which I have no doubt the young children of CEDEM will benefit. They will have lots of fun activities that have been brought up for them .My sincere thanks go to Officers of the CEDEM and the Rajiv Gandhi Science Centre for organising today’s event.  I am  convinced that today’s activity will have a long lasting impact on them and specially the kids so that when they are back in their routine life, they will play and investigate more on issues related to science.
