‘Opening of the International Conference on Contemporary Mauritius’

 

It gave me immense pleasure to associate myself with this conference on Contemporary Mauritius, organized by the Mahatma Gandhi Institute, in collaboration with the University of Technology, Mauritius and Mauritius Research Council. To-day for this international Conference, it was an honour and priviledge to have in our midst such eminent scholars as Professor Eriksen, Anthropologist from the University of Oslo, Professor Kothari from the University of Manchester and Dr Shivraj Sohur from Harvard Medical School who addressed some of the pertinent issues relating to Contemporary Mauritius.  Themes for the different panels covered all aspects of society, ranging from politics to culture, the economy, society and as well as the arts. These themes will be the backdrop to the subjects that will be addressed by some thirty other participants from MGI, UTM and MRC. I thank all the organizers, the participants from our local and foreign institutions and wish all of them fruitful deliberations. 

‘Caravane de la Science at Municipal Council of Vacoas/Pheonix’

 It gave me great pleasure today to see so many people of all age groups gathered under one roof taking an interest for science, and to join in the Launching ceremony of the “Caravane de la Science”, organized by the Rajiv Gandhi Science Centre held at the Municipal Council of Vacoas/Pheonix. I thank the Municipality of Vacoas –Phoenix for this initiative and wish them all the success it deserves in promoting science to the region.

‘PUBLIC LECTURE: EXCITEMENT &OPPORTUNITIES IN BIOMEDICAL SCIENCE’

 

 

I thank the Mauritius Research Council for organizing the Public Lecture, on ‘Excitement and Opportunities in Biomedical Science’, given by Dr Shivraj Sohur from none other than the prestigious Harvard Medical School. Today my Ministry through the Mauritius Research Council continues on this path as part of our mandate to promote science and technology in Mauritius.  It is a fact that the frontier of biomedical science has rarely been as exciting and as full of spectacular opportunities as it is today. From basic science through clinical research to health services research, the opportunities made available through the impressive advances of recent decades in the biomedical as well as the physical, computational, and behavioral and social sciences have brought us to a frontier of unprecedented opportunity. Today's revolution in biomedical science has raised new hope for the prevention, treatment, and cure of serious illnesses. I am sure that today’s lecture will enlighten all those present and the discussions will accordingly help Mauritius in consolidating its place as a regional leader in biotechnology.

J’ai participé a un colloque International  sur la poétique d’Auguste Lacaussade et des autres auteurs mauriciens, qui s’est tenu à l’université de Maurice.ce poète de l’île de la Réunion, méconnu   jusqu’ici du grand public mauricien. Grand moment de poésie !
