I was at an Interactive Session on Science with the
students of the Mahatma Gandhi Secondary School (MGSS) at Nouvelle France. In 2010,
Government has mandated the RGSC to organise outreach programmes such as the ‘Caravane
de la Science’ throughout the island, to sensitise our student population and
the public at large on the importance of studying science. No country can
develop without an appropriate base of science and technology. Our
competitiveness and indeed our survival as a nation is dependent on the level
of Science and Technology. We need scientists, doctors, researchers, engineers
etc to pave the way towards the creation of the technology base for the
Mauritian society. My sincere thanks go to the Ministry of Education and Human
Resources, the MGI/RTI Council, the Rajiv Gandhi Science Centre and the MGSS,
Nouvelle France. I would also like to impress upon the rectors and teachers to
motivate their students to participate in such kind of activities. I wish all
students all the best as they pursue their passion in Science and Technology. I
am confident that they will rise to meet the challenge and be a significant
part of our nation’s human capital to realize a prosperous and vibrant nation.
