‘CONFERENCE ON FOREIGN DIRECT INVESTMENT IN MAURITIUS’

I would first like to congratulate Isitech Business School for organizing this National Conference on Foreign Direct Investment and for its recent affiliation with Coventry University. Higher educational institutions have a crucial role to play in encouraging reflection and analysis on themes of national and global relevance and enrich the policy debate on emerging issues in economic, social and developmental fields. I am therefore thankful to the Isitech Business School for bringing together economists, financial analysts, researchers and practitioners to share their views on Foreign Direct Investment. We are all aware of the importance of foreign direct investment in the international economic system and how its acts as a catalyst to development. It is also known that FDI’s do not come automatically and are not spread evenly among countries and sectors. There is need for strong national policies, a stable political environment and a transparent and effective policy environment to encourage investment.
