Dr Jeetah was elected Member of the National Assembly in December 2003 for the first time for Constituency No.7 (Piton/Rivière du Rempart), and remained so until April 2005. Dr Jeetah was re-elected as: • Member of the National Assembly for Constituency No.11 (Vieux Grand Port-Rose Belle), in 2005 and became Minister of Industry, Small and Medium Enterprises, Commerce & Cooperatives (2005 to 2008).He became Minister of Health & Quality of Life (2008 to 2010). • Member of the National Assembly for Constituency No.10 (Montagne Blanche- GRSE)in 2010 and became Minister of Tertiary Education, Science, Research and Technology till 2014. Mr Mike Younger Director, Centre for Commonwealth Education/Head of the University of Cambridge Faculty of Education and other participants of the commonwealth actually in Mauritius for the ‘ International Conference on ‘MILLENNIUM GOALS REVISITED: Transforming Teaching, Learning and Leadership in Commonwealth contexts’ were invited by Dr the Hon. R. Jeetah Minister of Tertiary Education, Science, Research and Technology for a press conference and for the planting of tree at the University of Mauritius.

Dr the Hon. R. Jeetah Minister of Tertiary Education, Science, Research and Technology attended to an ‘Award of Certificates Ceremony’ organised by the MCA (Mauritius College of the Air) and the UTM (University of Technology Mauritius) at the MGI Auditorium, Mahatma Gandhi Institute, Moka. The two Tertiary Educational Institutions have culminated in the possibility of validating experience and skills with accredited qualifications through the joint development of programmes offered through a flexible learning mode. 171 Awardees received their certificates in the 'The Certificate of Proficiency in the Management of Early Childhood Development Services', 'Certificate in Archival Science' (Records Management, Care, Conservation and Reprography) and Diploma in Management.

Mr. R. Boojihawon from the ‘Open University’ in United Kingdom made a presentation on the distance learning in the Lecture Theatre of the MCA (Mauritius College of the Air) in presence of Dr the Hon. R. Jeetah Minister of Tertiary Education, Science, Research and Technology. The ‘Open University’ is an institution specialised in distance learning in United Kingdom.

‘ Meeting with World Bank ‘

Dr the Hon. R. Jeetah Minister of Tertiary Education, Science, Research and Technology had a meeting with the World Bank to discuss on tertiary education in Mauritius.
