I have to congratulate the organizers of this workshop mounted as a collaborative activity between the Apollo Bramwell Hospital, the International Association of Medical and Biochemical Researchers and the Society for free Radical Research-Africa the National Research Chairs of the Mauritius Research Council and the Centre for Biochemical and Biomaterials Research. I thank Apollo Bramwell for bringing together local researches, academics and medical professionals. Thanks for the presence of International researchers from the American Diabetes Association – Dr. Joseph Indelicato, Dr. Karl-Heinz Wagner from the University of Vienna, Austria, Dr. Okezie.l.Aruoma PhD and Dr. Emmanuel Bourdon PhD. Like other health issues, diabetes is a national concern. It is comforting that there is a collaborative effort of the private sector, public institutions and researches to explore all the aspects of this health concern. I wish that this collaborative initiative leads to a sustained research agenda by all the stakeholders.
