‘Visit of delegation from the Commonwealth Secretariat’
I met with a delegation from the Commonwealth Secretariat headed by Dr Sylvia Anie, Director. The aim of the visit was to discuss for the arrangements in the context of the forthcoming event the ‘18th Conference of the Commonwealth Education Ministers (28th -31st August 2012)’ to be held in Mauritius.
‘Training Course on Research Methodology’
I
proceeded to the launching of the ‘Training Courses on Research Methodology,
held at the seat of the Mauritius Research Council. The Mauritius Research
Council has a national mandate to develop national research policies and
encourage researchers. Research is meant to increase knowledge and development
and is the application of knowledge to industry, management, economy, business
and social development. Good
quality research requires additional skills to complement the academic training
of researchers. These include good communication skills, use of specific
statistical packages, flawless report writing skills, formulation of relevant market
survey reports, ability to publish in high impact factor journals. We need some
role models, some research champions from academia and the business world. I
would like to request the Chairman and Board of the Mauritius Research Council
to go further by keeping track of the trainees and assessing whether the
training has been put into practice through publication of research.
