‘The International Textile & Apparel Sustainability Conference’
I extend a warm
welcome to all the participants and particularly those who have come from far
to be present at ‘The International Textile & Apparel Sustainability
Conference’ .In this conference the participants are going to learn a lot, how
to tackle issues of sustainability and I hope the conference proceedings will be
disseminated as widely as possible among the various stakeholders. I pay
tribute to our farsighted thinkers and visionaries like our first Prime
Minister, Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam, Sir Edouard Lim Fat and Mr José Poncini for
believing that textile sector could
be a very important pillar of our
national economy specially at a time when unemployment was very high specially
among the young people. We are thankful to Sir Edouard Lim Fat, Mr Jose Pocini
and late Mr Tang Wing Haw who set up the first EPZ enterprises and nurtured
them to success. They were the pioneers of the sector. I also want to pay
tribute to all the workers as well as our foreign workers and particularly the
female workers who had been the backbone of our textile industry. I wish all
the participants fruitful deliberations.
