Press Conference – ‘Open University of Mauritius’

I met the press today to speak on the Open University which is a cornerstone project of the Government of Mauritius to remove barriers for access to post secondary and tertiary education in Mauritius and the Indian Ocean Region, through the emergence of a flexible, accessible and cost effective educational system that will tap on the existing resources at technical, vocational and university education levels. The resulting impact should significantly enhance the quality and provision of post secondary education both locally and for this sub region of the Indian Ocean.

‘Opening Ceremony of ICPAC 2012 (International Conference on Pure and Applied Chemistry)’

On behalf of the Government of Mauritius, I wish a particularly warm welcome to all the international participants and in particular to Prof Huber, the Nobel Prize Winner in Chemistry in 1988 at the International Conference on Pure and Applied Chemistry, ICPAC 2012. This year’s Conference theme “Chemistry: the Key for our Future” highlights the importance of chemistry in our life and the crucial role it has to play in the future. I commend the Organizing Committee for their laudable efforts in organizing the second ICPAC Conference. I wish all the participants a stimulating and successful Conference and a pleasant stay in Mauritius. For the international participants, I hope they will be able to take some time out to appreciate the local hospitality and natural beauty of Mauritius.
