It was a special privilege to be at a Lecture delivered by the distinguished Nobel Laureate, Prof Robert Huber. With very modest origins, Professor Huber has risen to become one of the superstars of science through his dedication, commitment, sense of purpose and perseverance in the quest for new knowledge. In his autobiography, he states how the family struggled for some milk and bread during the war and how he taught himself chemistry, by reading all textbooks which he could get. I hope that today’s interaction between Professor Huber and our young scientists and researchers will provide our young people with inspiration and motivate them to follow the paths of such great scientists. I would like to thank the Mauritius Research Council, the University of Mauritius, and the International Conference on Pure and Applied Chemistry 2012 (ICPAC) for organizing this unique and special event.
