‘Launching of Live Presentations by the Humanoid Android Robot of Koba lab’s SAYA’
I congratulate Prof Takuya Hashimoto from the Koba Lab Team of the Tokyo University of Science as well as thank him for the presentation. For many of us, the four-letter word ‘SAYA’ may not mean much but for those who are particularly enthusiastic about student-centred interactive learning, SAYA, which means ‘me’ in Malay, is like a dream turned into reality, especially in the field of Education. We have all heard about SAYA, which is an educational system with a tele‐operated android robot that can express human‐like facial expressions and perform some communicative functions with its head and eye movements. This tele‐operated android robot is today being utilized as a teacher. SAYA is presently based with NGO Société pour la Promotion des Entreprises Spécialisées’ (SPES) at Quatre-Bornes, which has received the National Special Jury ICT Award in 2011. The team is here on a Technical exchange scheme with the Tokyo Koba Lab under the leadership of Prof. Hiroshi Kobayashi of Tokyo University of Science. I wish plenty of success to SAYA and its e-classes with the latest whiteboard and special easy-to-use Keyboards even for people with handicaps. I am sure that the Android teacher SAYA will lead many in a new experimental environment for fun-learning tuition for ALL Ages...
