‘1st International Conference on Waste Management in Developing and Transient Economies ’

I was delighted to be there today for the Opening of the “1st International Conference on Waste Management in Developing and Transient Economies”, organised by the University of Mauritius in collaboration with CODWAP (Collaborative Curriculum Development on Waste Management in Africa  and the Pacific Region) . I take the opportunity to welcome representatives from government departments, academics, researchers and players in the private sector and NGOs for participating in today’s event. The importance of the Conference is that each of them brings a new perspective and experience from their respective countries, and the collective wisdom which will emerge from the deliberations will benefit them all. I would like to thank all stakeholders involved in making this initiative a success and I wish all of them a fruitful discussion.

‘Opening Ceremony of the UoM Research Week 2011’

It gave me great pleasure to be at the Opening Ceremony of the UoM ‘Research Week 2011’, held at the Paul Octave Wiehe Auditorium, Réduit. The Research week is a very good initiative of the University. I firmly believe that research is, and shall remain, instrumental in the personal as well as professional development of UoM academics. I hold high hopes that this Research Week at the University of Mauritius shall effectively assist in promoting research. My wish is that they make the most of all those interactions and find even stronger ground for sustainable collaboration.
