‘Laying of Foundation Stone Ceremony for the New University Campus at Montagne Blanche’
I was at the Laying of Foundation Stone Ceremony for the New University Campus at Montagne Blanche, by the Prime Minister Dr the Hon. N. Ramgoolam, GCSK, FRCP and other eminent personalities. I have to admit that I cannot believe that this is happening today. As the first Minister of Tertiary education, I must say that today I am happy, satisfied, excited and overwhelmed with the realisation of this project today. We are starting the construction of a new university campus in Montagne Blanche. This is first one in a series of 5 university campuses which will be built in different corners of the island – Pamplemousses, Piton, Montagne blanche, Reduit/Highlands and Rose-Belle. I would like here to pay tribute to the Man who had the vision to democratise access to tertiary education, to have one graduate in every Mauritian household and to make Mauritius a destination for higher learning. This man is none other than the Hon Prime Minister, Dr Navinchandra Ramgoolam. I would like to thank the Prime Minister for his able leadership and for his unflinching support to make this dream come true today. Today’s event bears testimony to the efforts of our Government to democratise access to tertiary education. This is yet another proof that this Government does what it says.
