‘Caravane de la Science at Hindu Girls College, Curepipe’

I was at an Interactive Session on the occasion of the “Caravane de la Science” visiting the Hindu Girls College. It gave me an immense pleasure when I see students and professionals organising and attending such events that will allow them to increase awareness of science which is very important for the development of our young and talented scientific minds. Organising the “Caravane de la Science” is indeed a very laudable initiative which encourages our students to consider a career as scientists and researchers and paves the way towards the creation of a technological base for the Mauritian Society. I therefore congratulate the Rajiv Gandhi Science Centre in presenting our younger generation with the necessary platform for building a culture of creativity and innovation in Science and its related issues. My sincere thanks go to Ministry Education and Human Resources, the PSSA, the Rajiv Gandhi Science Centre, the Hindu Girls College and all stakeholders. I would also like to impress upon the rectors and teachers to motivate their students to participate in such kind of activities. I wish all students all the best as they pursue their passion in Science and Technology. I am confident that they will rise to meet the challenge and be a significant part of our nation’s human capital to realize a prosperous and vibrant nation.

‘Launching of the Seminar Series’

I launched the Faculty Communication Seminar (FCS) series of the Faculty of Law and Management at the Lecture Theatre 1 of the University of Mauritius. My Ministry is presently putting a lot of emphasis on ensuring linkages between tertiary education and the world of work, and this initiative in developing a professional approach to management and planning is welcome and timely. We are continuously striving to improve our international competitiveness and the standard of living of the population. The UoM in general, and the Faculty of Law and Management in particular, has to be a strong and leading one. Mauritius is moving into a new economic trajectory where the services sector is growing, and we must gear up in our managerial skills to meet the new challenges. I look forward to such seminars being stepping stones in making the departments grow into strong units to be reckoned with, both at national and regional levels, based on the quality of the tertiary education and training that they provide. I also trust that research we must do needs to be strengthened, and that the programmes of study we offer and the quality of graduates we place on the market are enhanced. For today, I can say that we are making history with this innovative initiative, as we begin to adopt practices and techniques that will get us working more effectively and purposefully, as well as with better communication and teamwork. After all, this is the language of business, the key stakeholder. I look forward to them engaging in a lively and fruitful communication and forward-planning exercise during their Faculty Communication Seminar and in taking their vision forward.
